Four Dillo Lifters compete at Strawn Power Lifting Meet Feb. 27th
Thursday, March 5, 2009 • Posted March 5, 2009

On Friday, the San Saba High School Power lifting team competed in the Strawn meet. The team increased in weight totals from the Brownwood, DeLeon, Dublin, and Brady meets, thus showing great improvement. We are extremely proud of their accomplishments this week and if you see any of these lifters, please congratulate them on their awesome performance. The San Saba Boys team finished 8th out of 31 teams and we finished above most 2A schools in the meet and in front of most of our district opponents. 3 of the 4 lifters that competed received a medal. Most weight classes had at least 30 lifters or more in their weight classes. This meet was a highly competitive meet and our lifters should be congratulated on their performances. This meet was the last meet for boys’ power lifting to qualify for regionals. We are hoping to qualify as many as 5 lifters for the regional meet or as few as 2 lifters, but either way, the lifters should be complimented on their progress throughout the year. In order for a lifter to qualify for regionals, the lifter must be in the top 10 in their weight class with the lifters 11-15 being alternates. It is a huge accomplishment for a lifter to make it to the regional meet; it is similar to qualifying for the regional track meet. The Dillo lifters are continually working harder and bettering their totals each and every week and we are extremely proud of their performances. We will not know our regional qualifiers until Tuesday afternoon.

Alan Hale - 15th place in the 132 lb. class

Alex Cervantes - 5th place in the 148 lb. class

Tyler McIntosh - 1st place in the 275 lb. class

Dave Smith - 4th place in the SHW
