San Saba County Commissioners' Court holds special meeting in January

A special meeting of the San Saba County Commissioners' Court was held on January 28th. Judge Byron Theodosis, County Clerk Kim Wells, and Commissioners Otis Judkins, Ricky Lusty, and Roger McGehee were present. Kenley Kroll was absent due to a medical appointment. Also present were Gayla Hawkins, Marsha Hardy, Mike Edgmon, David Williams, and Cathi Miles.

Concerned citizens present were: Dwight Reagan, President of Elm Grove VFD; Larry Cottrell, Secretary of Elm Grove VFD; Mary Ledbetter, Wildlife Biologist; and Charlie Peeler, President of the San Saba County EMS.

Judge Theodosis called the meeting to order and Commissioner McGehee gave the invocation and the Pledges of Allegiance.

Marsha reported that ORCA awarded San Saba County the state fund portion of 25%, or $301,246.00 to complete the FEMA project, which willl be a total grant of $1,154,847.00.

Charlie Peeler reported that the new EMS Class for 2008 begins February 18th. The CPR class, which is necessary to complete before taking the EMS class, begins February 11th. For more information, please contact Charlie Peeler or Cindy Stafford. Charlie also reported that there is a great need for volunteers to complete the class to keep the San Saba County EMS operational.

Action Items:

1. Approval or rejection of the conservation contract in Precinct 3 for Jay and Carol Littlefield was tabled.

2. Receive and discuss presentation on controlled burns during a Burn Ban by Fire Chiefs. David Williams discussed the laws and exemptions.

3. The Burn Ban was discussed and is still in effect.

The Court approved Proposed Amendments, as well as all Accounts Payable. Proposed Amendments consisted of purchasing two used freightliner trucks for Precincts 1 and 2.
