The City Council of the City of San Saba, Texas met for a regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, February 10th at 5:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers. Mayor Ken Jordan called the meeting to order after announcing a quorum present. Marvin Riggs gave the invocation followed by everyone joining for the pledges to the American and Texas flags.
Stan Weik, City Manager, asked Joe Ragsdale to present the Joe Ragsdale Employee of the Month award to Roger Verette, Supervisor of the Electric Department. Roger gave recognition to his crew, Larry Alderson, Denver Daniel, Mike Argote and Jake Lackey. The Electric Department was involved in the project of replacing poles and updating the electric service for the city of San Saba.
The Council approved the following Consent Items:
1. Minutes from the January 19th and 28th Council Meetings.
2. Payment of bills presented to City Council.
3. Notice of Joint School and City Election.
4. Order of Election.
5. Appointed Advisory Committee members to work with the City on Golf Course Operation: Buddy Adams, Rick Baskin, Jerry Minter, Larry Hardin and Anita Miles.
W.D. Carroll and Joe Ragsdale gave information for the Council to help purchase a new EMS ambulance. There is grant money and help from the County, so after discussion, the Council approved funds be available to help purchase the ambulance.
The Council approved Ordinance No. 2009-01 to condemn the following structures: 802 N. Cherokee Units 2 & 11; 1509 W. Storey; 502 W. Church; 508 W. Pecan; and 704 W. Brown.
Stan Weik gave an update on the hospital building that has been listed for sale with all the realtors in the area. There has been some new information of some irregularities in footage so it was voted to take the property off the market temporarily. Weik gave an update on the Water Park Law Suit. There has been attorney issues and the company filed bankruptcy. The large awning at Downtown Video has been removed because of a safety hazard. Tony Guidroz is diligently working on projects for the beautification, tourism and industry of San Saba.
Roger Verette gave an extensive report (including a video) on the project of replacing poles and updating the electric service. Verette and his crew were on hand helping the company out of Austin, a crew of 17, work on this project that started April 24th, 2008. There was a delay when the crew went to restore electric service in the hurricane areas; however, the project will be completed by the end of February. Roger Verette brought sample wiring splices showing a comparison between the new and old. The project is under budget and there will also be funds from the sale of the scrap wire. The Council commended the Electric Department for a job well done.
Other Department reports were in the Council’s folders. Gale Ivy, City Secretary gave the 2nd reading of Resolution 2009-05 for the $350,000 Loan Application.
