Junior Lady Dillos Basketball Report
Thursday, February 19, 2009 • Posted February 19, 2009

The San Saba Junior Lady Dillos (5-0) wrapped up the first round of division play with a big 22-10 win over the Burnet Swoosh (4-1) last Saturday in Lampasas to take sole possession of first place in the division. Both teams came into the game with perfect 4-0 records to set up a very exciting game. Neither team would disappoint as they would both battle hard for three quarters before the Lady Dillos would pull away in the fourth quarter.

The Lady Dillos started off by using full court pressure and caused several turnovers which would turn into several easy baskets but Burnet continued to push the ball down the floor and would only trail 8-5 at the end of the first quarter.

Tori Bauerschlag and Kayla Novak made some key offensive rebounds and combined for 6 points while the Lady Dillos picked up the intensity on defense and shut out Burnet in the second quarter to take a 14-5 lead heading into halftime.

Burnet would come out strong in the third quarter and shut out the Lady Dillos 3-0 to narrow the lead to 14-8 but that would be as close as they would get as the Lady Dillos would outscore Burnet 8-2 in the fourth quarter to take the 22-10 victory.

Bauerschlag led the Lady Dillos with 6 points followed by Novak, Joy Trujillo, and Leigh Riggs with 4 points each, Ashlyn Turner with 3 points and Hailey Osbourn with 1 point.

McKenna Maxcey has done a tremendous job handling the ball for the Lady Dillos while Bauerschlag, Novak, Turner and Osbourn lead in rebounding.

Joy Trujillo and Leigh Riggs continue to shoot well from the outside while Mercedes Hensley continues to improve defensively.

This week, Feb. 16-Feb. 21, the Lady Dillos will be taking part in the Brownwood Basketball Tournament and will face Early in the opening round of the 12 team tournament.
