The Board of Trustees of San Saba ISD met in the Central Administration Office on Thursday, February 12. President Darrin Barker called the meeting to order at 6:05. After establishing a Quorum present, President Barker gave the invocation followed by everyone joining for the pledges to the American and Texas flags.
Recognition was given to the High School Girls Basketball team for accomplishing District Championship. They will go to Florence on Monday Feb. 16th for a practice game with Thorndale at 6:30 pm. The playoff will be Friday Feb. 20th. Three students were recognized for the PALS leadership conference in Austin.
Superintendent Glaze reported on the following:
A. Enrollment was 752 at the beginning of the year and at the present time 688. This effects the budget and the TEA funding.
B. Starting March 1st some bus routes will be combined.
C. Electronic time cards are being implemented.
D. The Mid-winter Conference was attended and legislative information obtained.
E. Very hopeful that SSISD will receive a Federal Stimulus package of $759,000 - most of it over a 2 year period.
F. Target revenue adjustment of $254,000 was received.
G. A Wireless Network system was discussed.
H. E-rate application is a discount from Federal Government for website.
I. A fender-bender was reported involving a District vehicle - no one was injured and insurance is taking care of the damage.
J. Open House is planned for March 9th; Ele. 4:00 - 5:30 p.m.; MS 5:00 - 6:00 p.m.; HS 5:30 - 6:30 p.m.
K. Applications are being accepted to fill the three Trustees terms that will expire for election in May.
L. Election Procedures for ESC Region XV Board Members are being accepted.
M. There will be a revision of Cheerleading and Drill Team policies prior to tryouts.
N. An application for a Vision 2020 Grant of $500,000 has been filed and will be used for Technology purposes such as laptops and projectors.
O. Website updates were needed for calendar events to be more visual.
P. Representatives are planning to attend the City Recognition Awards Banquet.
Q. The Tennis Marquee has a new Posting Area.
R. The Grease Trap was pumped to help with a problem of buildup. A bigger tank could also help with the problem.
S. The next meeting of the Trustees was set for March 9th at 6 p.m.
T. Spring break will be the week of March 16th.
The following Consent Agenda was approved:
1. The Regular and Executive Session minutes from January 12.
2. Amend 2008-09 budget as needed.
3. Allow and pay bills
4. Financial Report
5. Issuance of Election Order for May 9, 2009 Trustee Election.
Assistant Superintendent Ashley Stewart gave a report on the Spring Schedule itinerary and new curriculum. Ms. Stewart reported the High School activities in the absence of Principal Underwood. The high school has a total of 200 students; TAKS and Tests in progress; Open House being planned; Pep Rally and Spring Break. The faculty and students are doing great.
Elementary Principal Mr. Tabor reported 281 students; citizenship awards; report cards will be out on February 26th; TAKS; students participated in The Stock Show; The state required fitness chart will be held March 24th; The Science Fair will be the first week of May; there has been good growth in all grades.
Middle School Principal Mr. Pannell reported 207 students; 12 students participated in the County Stock Show; there has been improvements in all grades; Cheerleader Tryouts is February 24th; Basketball report; Track program will start as the next sport.
The group reviewed the Substitute Teacher Policy and discussed some revisions.
President Barker adjourned the meeting at 7:03 p.m. and announced an Executive Session after a short break.

During the Executive Session, the Board regretfully accepted Mr. Underwood's resignation effective March 13th. Mr Underwood will be taking the position of Superintendent at Priddy ISD. Jeff Panell was hired as Athletic Director taking effect immediately. Also contracts were extended as presented to the Board.
