The clouds were thick Monday morning and offered the possibility of rain, but all that was received in the morning was a little thin mist not even enough to show on the ground. It was very cool, down in the 50’s and supposed to warm up by Tuesday. The weather has even fooled some of the trees, as some are putting on little green leaves.

Some peach trees at Nix have already bloomed. If the warm weather, up in the 70’s continues there will be more fruit trees blooming, which will not be good. If it isn’t the weather, then it is some sort of bug that attacks the fruit and pecan trees. Last year wasn’t a good year and so far this year will not be any better. It will be a big surprise if there is a good showing of blue bonnets and other wild flowers this spring.

Margaret Smith who died last week was buried at the Chapel cemetery Tuesday afternoon. She was the last of the eleven children of Ben Lively and Ethel Baxter Lively. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

Jane Clark was on the road again last week, first to Lubbock and then according to her a flying trip by car to Portales, New Mexico. She had to get to Portales in an hour and a half to be on time to go with her sister, Elsa Dean Shirley to Cloud Croft.

Elsa Dean had to be in Cloud Croft in time to pick up her grandchildren when they got out of school. Jane reported that she was praying the whole time, first to not have a wreck, second to get to Portales without a speeding ticket and that she would get there in time to go with Elsa Dean, which she did without any sort of mishap.

On Valentine’s day Jake, Malissa and son Jadon Mims of Corpus visited in the home of Hugo and Lesa Preece. To celebrate the day Hugo cooked steak for everyone, including his mother-in-law Malissa Lemons.
