San Saba JV Girls Basketball Report

We only played one game this week since Tuesday was a bye for us. We traveled to Comanche to play one of our last games of the season.

We started off a little rocky in the 1st quarter and continued to look the same way in the 2nd quarter. At halftime I tried to settle the girls down and tell them we just need to play “our” game and we would be right back in the game.

With about 11 seconds left in the game we were down 2 with the ball. I told Pulatie to be patient and we were looking to get it to Sam. They did exactly what I asked of them and Sam went to the free throw line with 4 seconds left. She made both free throws which put the score at 22 all and sent it into overtime. We played much better in the second half and I was very happy with the way the girls played.

Overtime was a little different story for us. We went into overtime with Ashley Pulatie and Taylor Smith both with 4 fouls. We got some good looks but just couldn’t make the shots. We ended up falling to Comanche 28-22.

I tried to stress to the girls the importance of getting good shots in overtime, because you don’t have much time so everyone needs to count. They are learning and that’s really all that matters when it comes to JV basketball.

Also, Silvia Jimenez did not play most of the game due to an injury she suffered in the 2nd quarter. She’s one of those girls you really need on the floor in games like this, but Rebecca Paredes was able to come in and play hard and get some great steals. I couldn’t have asked for her to do any better.

Leading scorers were Ashley Pulatie with 8 points, Samantha Henry with 8 points, Silvia Jimenez with 4 points, and Paige Chambers with 2 points.

We will return to action on Tuesday night for our last game of the season. Wow! Time sure does seem to fly by! Hopefully the girls will be ready to play and we will end the year with a win!
