Elm Grove Echoes
Thursday, January 24, 2008 • Posted January 24, 2008

We have had a little hint of rain but nothing measurable so far in January. Our last rainfall was .3 on December 15th. We have been having some of those cold temperatures which I do not like. We just have to keep in mind, the Lord has a reason for all of the seasons.

We were sorry to hear of the passing of Soap Hardman. He and Opaline and their family were residents of the Elm Grove community for many years. He was also a cousin of mine. Marilyn Suber and I went to San Saba Thursday night for the visitation and got to see the rest of the family, some of which I had not seen in many years. We had the special treat of visiting with G.W. Neiderhofer who was the pastor at Elm Grove Baptist Church 53 years ago. The Neiderhofers were overnight guests of Bonnie and Jr. Evans. We send our sympathy to the Hardman family.

It was announced at the community meeting last night that Curtis Lee’s brother in Ballinger had passed away. We send our sympathy to Curtis and the rest of the family.

There were sixteen present at the community meeting. We were surprised by a lack of propane and had to rely on the old wood heater for heat. The room was getting warm about the time the meeting was over. We all enjoyed standing around the old stove and visiting, though. New officers were elected as follows: Bobby Deeds, president, Jerald Weatherman, vice-president and Wilma Lee, sec-treas. and I accepted the appointment as reporter for one more year. I have held this position for 43 years and I am sincerely hoping to be relieved of it next year. I know there is someone else who can do a good job of it. The community meetings are held the third Saturday night in each month. A list of hostesses for each meeting is posted at the community center.

We ask everyone to be in prayer for David Evans and his family. His cancer has returned and he is not feeling very well.

I have to do a little bragging on my grandson, Theron Parson. He was one of four boys nominated from Bangs and the only one chosen to play in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes All-Star football game. Theron will play for the south squad at Shotwell Stadium in Abilene in June. We are very proud of him. This is Theron’s senior year at Bangs and he plans to attend college at Sul Ross in Alpine.
