Vernelle Thaxton, 88, of Cherokee passed away Sunday, February 8, 2009 at Hill Country Health Care in Llano. She was born October 2, 1920 in Cherokee, the daughter of James Bowman and Betty Bickley Bowman. Vernelle worked as a Professional Seamstress. In 1940 George Henderson Thaxton and Vernelle Bowman were married. She attended the Methodist Church.

Vernelle is survived by one daughter, Kay Allison and her husband Bill, of Cherokee; two grandchildren, Regina Allison and Tia Allison; one brother, Bill Bowman and his wife, Mary Ellen of St. Louis, Missouri.

Vernelle is preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one son.

Graveside service will be held Thursday, February 12, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at Gray Cemetery with Rev. Dale Strown officiating.
