Burn Ban Update
Thursday, January 24, 2008 • Posted January 24, 2008

Please note that San Saba County, along with most of its neighboring counties, is still under a burn ban and will remain so until we receive significant and county wide rainfall. We wish that there was a way to lift the ban for short periods in response to small amounts of precipitation that offer short windows of opportunity for safe burning but that is not possible.

There are outdoor burns such as for planting or harvesting, burns under a certified prescribed burn manager, and firefighter training that may be exempt from this present type of burn ban. If you need verification of your exempt status please call the County Judge’s office; however, be aware that we cannot and do not give you permission to burn. That may sound trivial, but it is not; and we can only tell you that you may not be prevented from burning, if you qualify.

Those that conduct burns, whether it is during a time of burn ban or not may be liable for their procedures and are required to call the Sheriff’s office to report their intentions so that the fire department need not respond to reports of fire and/or smoke. This is extremely important for obvious reasons of safety and needless expenditure of time and money by our volunteer fire departments.
