Ruth Holcomb Churchwell

Ruth Holcomb Churchwell, age 97 passed away peacefully January 31,2009 after suffering alzheimers disease for the past six years.

Ruth was born April 24, 1911 at Holt, TX. She was one of 12 children born to Reed and Robbie Powell.

Ruth married Marion Clinton Holcomb August 14, 1932 and lived at Richland Springs, Tx. for the next 15 years until Clinton Holcomb died accidentally in August, 1946. Ruth left the farm to become a hair-dresser, and through this occupation, supported herself and her three children. Ruth settled in Llano, Tx., as Owner of “Ruth’s Beauty Shop” for about 30 years.

Ruth was a member of the Pittsburgh Baptist Church in Llano.

Ruth was preceeded in death by her husband, Marion Clinton Holcomb; second husband, William “Bill” Massey; third husband, Alfred Churchwell; sons, Clinton P. Holcomb; and Jackie Holcomb; grandson, Sammy Holcomb; parents, Reed and Robbie Powell; brothers, Bea Powell; John Powell; Leon Powell; Melvin Powell; sister, Annie Jeffrey.

Ruth is survived by her daughter, Marian Otto and husband, Frank; daughters-in-law, Margaret Holcomb; and Peggy Holcomb; grand-daughter, Marcy Holcomb; grandsons, Steve Holcomb and wife, Debra; Gordon Holcomb and wife, Ruby; Greg Otto and wife, Stefanie; great-grandchildren, Wade Slagle and wife, Laci; C.J. Holcomb; Desirae and Dalton Holcomb, Mason Otto; great-great­grandchildren, Ashley, Aspen, and Rowdy Slagle; brothers, Bobby Powell and wife, Jean; Wayne Powell and wife, Gladys; Norman Powell and wife, Norma Lee; sisters, Florence Titlow; Vera Christain; Ida Mae Parks; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at Howell-Doran Funeral Home in San Saba, Tx. on Tuesday, February 3,2009 at 2:00 p.m. Officiating Pastors Bro.Barry Fikes and Bro. Bobby Powell. Interment followed at the Richland Springs Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Steve Holcomb, Gordon Holcomb, Greg Otto, Wade Slagle, C. J. Holcomb, and Kenneth Powell.

Honorary Pallbearers: brothers and sisters, Bobby Powell, Wayne Powell, Norman Powell, Florence Titlow, Vera Christain, Ida Mae Parks. Also, (deceased sons and grandson) Clinton P. Holcomb, Jackie Holcomb, and Sammy Holcomb.

The family requests memorials to be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
