Esther Ware Deveney Lewis

Esther Ware Deveny Lewis, 91, went to be with her Lord on the morning of Sunday, February 01, 2009.

Esther was born on January 24th, 1918 in Dallas, Texas to Dr. Albert Lewis Deveny and Nettie Rountree Deveny, the third of six children. She was baptized into Christ when she was 12 years old & remained a faithful Christian ever since. Esther & the love of her life, Russell Austin Lewis, Jr., married on August 31st, 1939 in Austin, Texas.

Russell had been waiting for her in Heaven for almost 25 years, since April 16th, 1984.

Esther was also preceded in death by her parents Dr. Albert & Nettie Deveny, 2 brothers, & several brothers & sisters-in-law.

Esther’s immediate family includes: her sister, Ruth Deveny Hornbuckle of San Antonio; sister, Cinda Deveny Kelly of Placerville, California; brother, Edwin Deveny and his wife, Charlotte of Palos Verdes, California; & sister-in-law, Angie Deveny of Houston, Texas.

Esther’s children are Dawn Sharon Lewis Felts & her husband, John of San Saba; Joan Carol Lewis of San Saba; & David Russell Lewis & his wife Sherry of Justin, Texas.

Esther's grandchildren are Julie Dawn Felts Wright & her husband, Darroll of Alpine; John Michael Felts of Granite Shoals; Laurie Anne Lewis of Portland, Oregon; David Lance Lewis & his wife, April of Ft. Worth; Russell Cade Lewis & his wife, Cindy of Ft. Worth; Benjamin Tyson Lewis & his wife, Sandie of Rosenburg; Jennifer Dawn Lewis of Brady; Andrew Morgan Lewis of Brady; Leigh Ann Lewis Lux & her husband, Eric of McGregor, Texas.

Esther’s great-grandchildren are Jessica Dawn Felts Lovett & her husband, William of San Saba; Hailey Lewis of Rosenburg; Tiernan Lewis of Portland, Oregon; Alexis Lewis, Autumn & Russell Mason of Brady; Nicole & Austin Lux of McGregor; Brooke, Moriah, Kiersten and Jaden Lewis of Ft. Worth; Danielle Wright of Johannesburg, South Africa; Durc Wright of Durban, South Africa; Jason Wright & his wife Natalie of Benoni, South Africa.

Esther's great-great grandchildren are William Houston Lovett, IV of San Saba; Noah Joel & Jesse Nicole Wright of Benoni. Esther also has many loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009 at 9 A.M. at the Howell-Doran Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed at the Chappel Cemetery.

The family requests that memorials be made to the San Saba Volunteer County EMS or to the Cherokee Home For Children.
