The annual convention of the Texas Educational Theatre Association was held January 23 - 25 at the Hyatt-Regency Hotel in Houston. Attending were Sidonie Thornton of Pontotoc and Brownwood, and Melanie Smith of Richland Springs. Accompanying them was Lorrie Hammons from Dallas.

This event is the largest theatre convention in the world, featuring special guests, as well as sessions dealing with every aspect of theatre. The ladies attended a number of sessions in addition to special presentations by Angela Lansbury and Jason Alexander. Melanie Smith also conducted a workshop for students and teachers.

Mrs. Thornton teaches English and theatre at Victory Life School in Brownwood, and Mrs. Smith volunteers at Richland Springs School, coaching UIL speech students.
