Thursday, February 5, 2009 • Posted February 5, 2009

The San Saba Junior Lady Dillos (6th grade girls) upped their record to 3-0 as they won a double header last week in Lampasas. The Lady Dillos began the day with a big 31-10 win over a previously undefeated Marble Falls Mustang team. Defense was the key as the Lady Dillos forced the Lady Mustangs into numerous turnovers. A 6-2 first quarter lead followed by a big 13-2 second quarter put the Lady Dillos up, 19-4 at halftime.

The Lady Mustangs outscored the Lady Dillos in the third quarter, 6-4, but the Lady Dillos would shut out the Lady Mustangs 8-0 in the fourth to pick up their second win of the season. Joy Trujillo had a big game with 16 points, followed by McKenna Maxcey with 7 points, Ashlyn Turner and Tori Bauerschlag with 4 each. Hailey Osbourn was a solid contributor on both ends of the floor while Kayla Novak and Leigh Riggs added a big boost defensively. Mercedes Hensley was unable to participate due to an illness.

Later that afternoon, the Lady Dillos would pick up another win, this time a 35-5 decision over Lampasas Blue. The Lady Dillos opened up with a 10-0 first quarter lead and then took a 20-2 halftime lead and never looked back as all team members would score.

The Lady Dillos were without the services of starting post Tori Bauerschlag who was kept out of the game on a precautionary measure due to a minor knee sprain. Hailey Osbourn and Kayla Novak took turns at the post position and did a great job. Osbourn and Novak scored 6 points each while Ashlyn Turner had 11 points, Joy Trujillo 6 points, McKenna Maxcey 4 points and Leigh Riggs 2 points. Maxcey, Trujillo and Riggs had several steals, Turner and Novak were big in the rebound department while Osbourn did a great job splitting time at the wing and post positions.

Up next, the Lady Dillos will travel to Burnet this Saturday, Feb. 7, for a 3 pm tip off against a talented Burnet Shock team at R. J. Richey Middle School.
