This is the time of year that most of the stock shows are in full swing and it gives the adults and kids lots to do and to think about. There is a lot of hard work that goes into getting the animals ready to enter and to practice on their showmanship. The parents have to provide the support and transportation to get to the events, so it is a family affair. John Brooks exhibited the reserve champion breeding guilt in the Lampasas County Youth Livestock Show his sister Catherine Hicks also showed a pig.

Another Bend community winner was Steven Byrd who showed the grand champion broiler. John Brooks and his family are in Ft Worth this week showing his reserve champion breeding guilt and his sister Catherine has reported to have shown a pig also. Congratulations go out to all the young people.

Catherine is just four, but according to all reports she is ready to be involved in all phases of raising and showing pigs. You can just bet we will be hearing more from both John and Catherine. This unbiased report came from grandfather Jim Hicks. Her head could be seen above the hog she was showing if that tells you anything about her size. She does her practice showman ship with her small dachshund dog and her grandparents rat terriers.

The dogs don’t particularly like it when she uses her prod on them and escape as soon as possible. That has to be a funny sight to behold! Jim had tears in his eyes from laughing when he related the story of how the dogs try to hide from her.

Brenda and Carol Gibson had their picture in the Lampasas paper with their chicken that won a ribbon. Congratulations go out to them.

Mickey,Jill and Jacob Henniger of Cedar Park were in on his birthday January 23, at his parents home, R.J. and Patsy, to grill steaks and celebrate the event.

Mebbie Eckhoff reported that the family is getting ready to go to San Angelo to the Stock show. Robbie, Amy, Ory and Ethan Eckhoff of Santa Fe, Texas was in over the weekend to help get the sheep ready and visit with relatives. Grandmother Jolene Lively ate lunch with the families Sunday at the home Leon and Mebbie.

A belated happy birthday goes out to Mickey Henniger whose birthday was January 23.

Happy birthday greetings go out to Vickie McDaniel who will celebrate a birthday January 30, to Josh Shoemake who will celebrate a birthday February 1 and to Amanda Morris whose birthday is February 2.
