The local chapter of The Daughters of the Republic of Texas hosted the I Love Texas Art and Poetry Contest during the month of February. The art contest was open to ages five through adult. Projects were required to relate to Texas or to the history of Texas. The poetry contest was open to grades 3 - 9 and to adults. Works of poetry were also required to concentrate on the subject of Texas.

Thirty-five students participated in the art contest this year. Eight students and two adults participated in the poetry contest. Winners received ribbons and a sweet treat. In addition, students who won first place received a $25 gift check. The first place winner in the adult category received a gift card from Sisters' Country Store.
