Ladies Golf Notes

The San Saba Ladies Golf Association met January 22, 2009 for PLAY DAY! Isn’t it great to live in Texas where you can play golf in January! It was a beautiful day. Six ladies played golf: Jo Anne Hardy, Jo Ann Snow, Sandee Hartley, Dorothy Sterner, Anita Miles, and a very special guest, Kay Sterner Barclay, daughter of Dorothy Sterner. Hattie Rogers was unable to play because of a wrist problem and so she followed the ladies and cheered them on. Pat Ribb and Becky Hardin joined in later in the day to play a few holes and join in for fellowship and lunch.

The President, Anita Miles, called for a game of Binga, Banga, Bongo, where you get a point for first on the green, closest to the pin, and first in the hole. First Place went to Kay Barclay and there was a tie for Second Place between Sandee Hartley and Jo Anne Hardy, who also chipped in to win the chip in pot. Sandee had the only birdie of the day and scored the Low Net for the day. Anita Miles scored the Low Gross for the day.

Sandee Hartley, the Traveling Four Ball Chair, and Anita Miles, the President, will be attending the annual Traveling Four Ball meeting at Fredricksburg, Texas on January 28, 2009 to plan the coming year. San Saba will be hosting the event in July.

At lunch the ladies surprised Jo Anne Hardy with their rendition of the Happy Birthday song as it was her _______th Birthday! Silence is golden! I haven’t recovered from the bruises of revealing Bobby Churchill’s age!

I played with Dorothy and her daughter, Kay, and it was such a joy. I have played with Dorothy and her girls often through the years at play day and in tournaments and I always love how those girls love their mama. They are so sweet and loving and every shot it’s, “Good shot, Mama”! The girls always have their Mama on their team at all the tournaments. It doesn’t get any better than that!

Next week we are looking for a blast of cold weather so it will be games but we know spring is right around the corner and then we will be “swinging!”
