The San Saba Lady Dillos captured two victories last week at the hands of the Dublin Lady Lions and the Bangs Lady Dragons. We traveled to Dublin last Tuesday and really played well. This was the type of game I was hoping for as we jumped on the Lady Lions really early and we also shot the ball well from the perimeter. Our perimeter game has been struggling here of late so it was nice to see some shots go in for us.
We had a great first quarter and never looked back as we outscored our opponent 25-7 in the first stanza. We pushed the lead up a bit more and took a commanding 37-10 lead in at halftime.
Shelby Hardy had a big night scoring 28 points with six of those shots coming from three point land, Calea Turner also netted 16 points along with five three pointers and Katy Davis also tallied double digits as she chipped in 11 points. Haylee Oliver also scored 8 points.
Nicole Sears and Johna Reavis lead us in rebounding with 6 each, Turner recorded 5 assists in that category and she and Haylee Oliver also lead in the theft department with 5 each.
Last Friday in a big game in Armadillo Arena we avenged our lone loss of the year as we defeated Bangs by a score of 56-38. We had a great first quarter and never looked back. We pushed the lead to seventeen as we took a 31-14 lead into halftime.
We increased the lead to twenty in the third stanza as it closed with us up, 47-27. We really played well for third quarters. The only downfall of the night was how we opened the fourth quarter. We had a bit of a let down and actually let Bangs cut the lead to eleven at one point but we righted the ship and pushed the lead back up to seventeen with minutes left in the last quarter. I was really proud of our intensity and focus.
The last quarter was a bit of a downer because in the playoffs it will take four quarters to win and advance. I’m not taking anything away from the win but we’ve got to learn to play for thirty two minutes if we want to play for a long time and both the girls and I want this for our school and community.
Calea Turner had a big night scoring 22 points along with six three pointers. Haylee Oliver added 14 points and Shelby Hardy scored 12. Oliver had a big night on the glass securing 13 rebounds along with 5 steals and 4 assists to lead in these areas.
I would like to also put a plug in for our screeners which happen to be all of the girls at various times. Sometimes a fan might just watch the person shooting and not how they got open and also got the ball in a scoring position.
To me a great screen and an assist are just as vital as the person who scores because without these two elements the basket would never happen. We don’t care who scores we just want to win and there have been several different people who have lead us in scoring throughout the year and this will continue in games to come.
I’m very proud of all our girls, they work hard and contribute in both games and practices. I’m also proud of our unsung heroes Bekah Bush and Ashley Pruitt who are our managers/trainer/filmer. These ladies do a great job and we really appreciate them as well.
When the paper comes out we will have traveled to McCullough County and battled the Lady Bulldogs.
Friday our arch rival, the Lady Horns from Early, invade Dillo Land. Make a note on your calendar and come watch a great game at 6:30 p.m. Hopefully we’re both 7-1 and playing towards a District Championship and a gold ball.
We defeated the Lady Horns 49-42 at the corral so I’m sure they’ll be ready to try and knock us off. We need our home side to be full and we need for you guys to be EXTRA LOUD and really spook the HERD from Brown County.
Armadillo Arena will be rocking this Friday night so make sure you come a little early to get a seat and make some noise as we make a push for a DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!!!!!!
LET’S GET READY TO
RUMMMMMBBBBLLLLLEEEE!!!!!!!!!
