Will wonders never cease, some rain fell around the Bend. Bonnie Millican reported that they received one-half inch, but 2/10 was all that fell on the west side of the river. Not a huge amount but it was moisture which is so badly needed. Some fruit trees are beginning to bloom as a result of all the warm weather. Reports of some shrubs that are beginning to bloom also.

The cold wind Monday caught everyone by surprise-it was cold beyond belief and no moisture with it. The wind was blowing so hard it couldn’t rain and if it did it would be in the next county before any moisture could hit the ground here. If this is any indication of what is to come in the next three days, March will be coming in like a lion.

Spring Break is just around the corner which means there will be people coming in from all over to get in some fishing and relaxing. If everyone is lucky the weather will hold out to be warm, maybe some wind, but then it will be typical weather for March. The white bass should be running around that time if not before. That always brings people out to the fishing camps and the State Park.

Jackie Brister is requesting prayers for the family of Dwayne and Marty Brister. Marty fell and broke her hip Sunday, February 24. She has several other health issues and is facing surgery.

At last report Clay Spivey reported it shouldn’t be too long before he and his family will open the café and serve Bar-B-Q Saturday and Sunday. He reported his dad had a cataract removed from his eye in Brownwood as well as some laser surgery in Austin.

Congratulations go out to John Brooks and his sister Kathryn Hicks of Lometa who attended the FFA final week of the Ft. Worth livestock Show and Rodeo. John Brooks and Kathryn showed in the Junior and open Breeding Gilt show at the Freeman Arena. John took third with his Chester white and sixth with his Hampshire gilt and Kathryn showed her Berkshire breed and took an eight-place finish.

Stephen Byrd a freshman in Lampasas is exhibiting market broilers in the poultry show in San Antonio.

Happy birthday greetings go out on Feb .26 to Julia Lackey and to Patrick Henniger who will celebrate a birthday February 28.
