Thursday, February 28, 2013 • Posted February 27, 2013

Kay Lynn Scott comes to The San Saba News & Star quite often; advertising for Kat’s Bling & Mark’s Things, her son’s store, and her daughter’s store, Suthern Finds, news articles and ads for Performance Talent, Search for the Stars, Boot Camp, and most recently, she is the publicity chairman for the Relay For Life.

Kay Lynn was an only child, raised by her mother, Wanda and step-father, J. Roy Johnson in Stamford, Texas. After high school, she went to Cisco Jr. College and transferred to Tarleton State University where she graduated in 1971. A friend introduced her to Mark Scott, a musician and San Saba county man, just before graduation. They were joined together when Mark put music to one of Kay Lynn’s poems and then joined together in marriage in October, 1971. In 1974 they moved to San Saba when Marks grandparents, who raised him, were in ill health and needed help. Kay Lynn taught school in San Saba and Mark was the Farm Bureau agent untill his recent retirement. They raised their three children, Natalie, Laura and Mark Jr. and have eleven grandchildren.

In 1987 Kay Lynn noticed that the students not involved in athletics, stock shows, or band, were falling through the cracks and their talents were not being developed. So she made arrangements to help them. Students signed up at school for trips to Nashville for a week to take classes and meet industry people. In the early 1990’s Kay Lynn studied and got her Talent Agent License and was bonded so that she could give her clients the opportunity to audition for commercials, TV, and films. She put an ad in the San Saba News & Star and prepared for ten kids, and much to her surprise, thirty five kids showed up. Thus Performance Talent Agency was born and talents developed. Qualified instructors from Nashville came to San Saba to teach at a Boot Camp. In 1996, news of the success of Performance Talent Agency, went world wide when a camera crew and reporter recorded them and was aired on the TV show, Day and Date. Kay Lynn was the agent for five year old Madylin Sweeten who was on the long-running Everybody Loves Raymond TV show; Taylor Golding was on a Blue Bell Commercial during a Super Bowl and Oriana Huron Orozco performed at Fiesta Texas, Opryland and Dolly-wood. There are many others, that wherever they go or whatever they do, they are very qualified for performing acts, choirs, solos, plays and etc.

As in show business and life experiences as well, there have been problems, last minute changes, disappointments and funds that don’t stretch. However, God has always provided and it’s the joy of getting a phone call from one of her students and sharing in their successes that makes it all worthwhile for Kay Lynn.

KayLynn was an agent for five years. At the present time she has around 12 students and prepares people for auditions and also schedules Boot Camps to develop their talents.

Her husband, Mark, has a recording studio at 111 E. Wallace where KayLynn teaches and their son and daughter’s stores are open for business. They are just a phone call away at 325-372-8600.
