Junior Lady Dillos bring home the 2013 Brownwood PIPS Youth Basketball Tournament Championship

The San Saba Junior Lady Dillos (9-1) opened up the 2013

basketball tournament season by bringing home the Brownwood PIPS Youth Basketball Tournament championship.

The tournament was held February 11 through February 16.

FIRST ROUND: San Saba JLD 26, Brady 16 - Hannah Osbourn

and Brenna Chambers would lead the Lady Dillos as they would advance to the second round of the tournament.

Kirsten Jimenez and Linzey Maxcey found themselves in

foul trouble early in the first half and would sit out most of the game. Savannah Johnson and Casey Mathis stepped in and did an outstanding job in relief of Jimenez and Maxcey. Osbourn led all scorers with 9 points,

Chambers 8, Ashlynn Cash 4, Jimenez 3 and Maxcey with 2

points.

Second Round: San Saba JLD 20, Coleman 3 - A solid win by

the Lady Dillos would advance them to the third round of

the tournament, Kirsten Jimenez with 8 points and Linzey Maxcey with 6 points would lead the Lady Dillos. Brenna Chambers, Hannah Osbourn and Savannah Johnson pitched in 2 points each.

Third Round: Brownwood 16, San Saba JLD 13 - A 25 foot

shot by the Lady Lions with one second on the clock would

hand the Junior Lady Dillos their first loss of the season. The Lady Dillos struggled offensively scoring only 4 points in the first half. Linzey Maxcey would score 6 points in the second half to lead the Lady Dillo comeback and Brenna Chambers would tie the game at 13-13 with 8 seconds left in the game with an outstanding drive to the basket. Scoring for the Lady Dillos were Maxcey

with 6 points, Chambers 4 and Kirsten Jimenez 3.

Quarterfinals: San Saba JLD 32, Coleman 11 - A 14 point third quarter by the Lady Dillos would seal the win of this rematch of the second round game. Kirsten Jimenez would lead all scorers with 10 points, Brenna Chambers 9, Linzey Maxcey 7 and Ashlynn Cash 6 points. Starting guard

Hannah Osbourn was unable to participate in this game but

Savannah Johnson would step in and do an outstanding job

for the Lady Dillos.

Semifinals: San Saba JLD 31, Brownwood 24 - The Lady

Dillos would find themselves down 19-14 at the end of the

third quarter but would rally with a 17 point fourth quarter to advance to the tournament championship. In the fourth quarter, Kirsten Jimenez would score 8 points and Brenna Chambers would add 5 points, including a big 3 point basket that would seal the victory for the Lady

Dillos. Scoring for the Lady Dillos were Jimenez with 14 points, Chambers 13, Hannah Osbourn and Ashlynn Cash added 2 points each. Casey Mathis did a good job in relief of Jimenez, who was in foul trouble throughout the game.

Championship: San Saba JLD 44, Brownwood 25 - This would

be the third meeting in the tournament for these two teams, each one handing each other a loss. Outstanding full court defensive pressure by the Lady Dillos would put an end of any hopes of the Lady Lions claiming the

tournament championship. Scoring for the Lady Dillos were

Kirsten Jimenez 16 points, Brenna Chambers 12, Linzey Maxcey, Hannah Osbourn, Casey Mathis and Ashlynn Cash all scored 4 points each. Kirsten Jimenez was voted the tournament most valuable player while Linzey Maxcey, Brenna Chambers and Ashlynn Cash also received votes for that honor. The Lady Dillos did suffer a set back as Savannah Johnson rolled her ankle in the third quarter of the championship game but she is expected to return. Team members are Casey Mathis, Savannah Johnson, Hannah Osbourn, Linzey Maxcey, Kirsten Jimenez, Brenna Chambers and Ashlynn Cash.
