Lady Dillo Basketball Report
Thursday, February 21, 2013 • Posted February 20, 2013

What a great week it was for the Lady Dillo basketball program! The Lady Dillos captured a Bi-District Championship Tuesday night against Poolville and then followed it up with an Area Championship against Seymour on Friday night. I am so proud of these young ladies! They have worked so hard day in and day out and they have grown so much as a team. We have faced adversity and been knocked down at times, but a true champion knows its not about falling but in rising each time you get knocked down. These girls are champions and I could not be any prouder of them!

The Lady Dillos faced the Poolville Lady Monarchs in the Bi-District round. We knew that Poolville had a size advantage over us but we felt like we were much quicker and could pressure them with our defense. The Lady Dillos came out with lots of energy and intensity and overwhelmed the Lady Monarchs right from the tip- off. We went into halftime with a 24-7 lead but were not done yet. We came out of halftime and kept the pressure on Poolville. We had a big 3rd quarter and scored 20 points to put us up 44-21 with the final quarter to play. The Lady Dillos went on to defeat Poolville by a score of 54-34. Scoring for the Lady Dillos were Cromer 16, A. Maxcey 4, Kutin 5, C. Saldivar 6, M. Maxcey 16 and Lasley 7.

The Lady Dillos then advanced to the Area round where they met the District 10-A Champions from Seymour. Seymour was undefeated in district play and we knew they were fundamentally sound and played very good defense. I liked the match up though because we were similar in size and once again I felt like our defense could cause them problems. It was definitely a four-quarter battle and our girls stepped up and made some big time shots when we needed them the most. One of the things we have emphasized with our girls all year is “wanting” to be in the dog fight and “wanting” to step up and handle the pressure. You can’t shy away from it or be afraid of that moment. You have to know you are prepared and be confident you will follow through. One of our team mottos is “No Pressure, No Diamonds”. We know you can’t win big games without overcoming adversity and handling pressure. Our girls did just that on Friday night and ultimately defeated the Seymour Lady Panthers 43-40. Scoring for the Lady Dillos were Cromer 9, A. Maxcey 2, Kutin 4, C. Saldivar 10, M. Maxcey 16, and Lasley 2.

The Lady Dillos will face a familiar foe in the Regional Quarterfinals as they face off against the Hico Lady Tigers. The game will be played in Hamilton at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 19th. Please come out and support the girls! Go Lady Dillos!
