5th and 8th Grade Students are Required to Pass State Assessment for Promotion

Student Success Initiative (SSI) regulations currently state that students in 5th and 8th grade must “pass” the reading and math portion of the STAAR assessment to promote to the next grade. 5th and 8th graders have three opportunities to meet requirements on state assessment. If a student fails the first two administrations of either assessment, the student will be required to attend Accelerate Instruction in the summer. If a student fails the first two administrations and doesn't attend accelerated instruction (summer school) then the grade placement committee must retain the student if the student fails the third administration.
