February 11, 1988

The annual Cherokee Hee-Haw sponsored by the Cherokee PTC will be held Feb. 20, at 7p.m. Everyone is invited to Cherokee to share in a night of laughter and fun.

Shanna and Shane Lively constructed a snowman last Sunday at their home on Wallace Creek Road. That area was surprised as were others, with a 3 to 4 inch snowfall that fell during the night.

The American Legion Valentine Dance is slated for Sat. Feb. 13, at 8:30p.m. Backroads Band of Temple will provide music.

Sheriff Report - 26 complaints; Arrests - 4 City, 5 County & State; 1 Capias warrant, Coryell County; 3 Disorderly Conduct, Fighting; 1 Theft of gasoline, resist arrest, contempt of court; 1 Public Intoxication; 1 Capias warrant, San Saba County; capias Lampasas County; 1 DWI; 1 Serving sentence. Seven prisoners are presently held in the San Saba County Jail.

February 12, 1953

T. A. Franks and C. E. Faubion have opened the building on the east side of the Plaza and are selling Paymaster Feeds. These new men are from Lometa. Melvin Murphy, also from Lometa, is salesman for the new firm.

J. D. Shires, William Kuykendall, and Herb Taylor have gone fishing at Sugar Lakes in Old Mexico.

Glenn Stafford of San Saba was awarded ninth place for his junior turkey tom entry in the 1953 Houston Fat Stock Show.

Edgar's Shoe Shop has moved from the Risien building to the Gaddy building on East Commerce Street.

Friday the 13th. That's the day for the grand formal opening of Harry's Department Store. This new, larger store will mean more room for all the new merchandise.

Kenneth Brandenberger - County Grand Champion Calf, placed 19th in his class at Houston; weighed 1060 pounds and sold at .51¢ per pound. Sale price premiums and awards all amount to $680.60.

February 10, 1938

Mr. and Mrs. D.J. Letbetter held their opening of the new bakery Saturday. Hundreds of customers called during the day, and expressed themselves much pleased with the new shop.

The Future Farmers of America Chapter of Richland Springs held its annual Father and Son banquet in the Templeton building at 7:30 o'clock Wednesday night, R.J. Powell, vocational agriculture instructor, announced.

Mr. and Mrs. Paul Kuykendall have moved from Cherokee to Hemit, Calif.

New bus service went into effect Monday on the Creamer Bus Lines giving two-way service to San Antonio daily. The bus leaves San Saba each morning at 7, arrives in San Antonio 10:45; leaves San Antonio at 5:45, arrives here 9:30p.m. This gives six hours in which to visit in San Antonio.

San Saba Rotary Club met at Hotel San Saba Thursday noon. L.C. Ward had charge of the program. Mayor J.T. McConnell, who recently returned from Boston and New York, also gave a talk. Music was furnished by V. H. Hartman.
