On Tuesday, Jan 29 we hosted Goldthwaite. The Dillos jumped out to an 11-8 lead after the 1st quarter. In the second quarter Goldthwaite outscored us 17-21 and took a 29-28 halftime lead. The Dillos came back in the third quarter and tied the game up 38-38. In the fourth quarter both teams had high scoring quarters but Goldthwaite outscored the Dillos 28-19 in the fourth quarter and won the game 66-57. Kelan Verette led the scoring for the Dillos with a season high 36 points!!!! Luis Vega had 8 points, JT Mathis had 6 points, Aaron Perez had 4 points, Kolton Ellis had 2 points and Garrett Welch had 1 point.

After this loss for the Dillos and a win by Meridian, the Dillos were tied for fourth in District with Hico and Meridian moved into sole third place.

On Friday, February 1 the Dillos traveled to Valley Mills. For the Dillos to make the playoffs, they would have to win the remaining three games of the season, and Valley Mills would be the first on in line. The Dillos did win the game, in exciting fashion I might add!!! Both teams were tied 14-14 after the first quarter. In the second quarter Valley Mills took a two point lead and led at half, 29-27. In the third quarter the Dillos had a hard time putting in the basket and Valley Mills got up by as much as 12 points, but the Dillos closed the gap a little and ended the third quarter down 41-33. The Dillos stormed back in the fourth quarter and held Valley Mills to just 6 points and scored 19 themselves and won the game 52-47. Kolton Ellis hit a big jump shot from around the free-throw line to put us up by one point and Aaron Perez hit some big free throws at the end of the game to put us up by 5 points with just a few seconds left. It was a great win for us and I am so proud of the kids for the way they responded when we got down in the third quarter. Kelan Verette led the scoring for the Dillos with 27 points. Kelan was 12 of 15 from the FT line. Aaron Perez had 7 points and 7 rebounds, Luis Vega had 6 points and 6 rebounds, Caelob Hardman and Issac Zepeda had 4 points, Kolton Ellis had 3 points, and JT Mathis had 1 point.

Here is the District Standings and playoff picture. Goldthwaite is 7-1, Valley Mills is 5-3, San Saba, Meridian, and Hico are 4-4, and Deleon is 0-8. The Dillos need to win their remaining 2 games against Deleon (Which was on Tuesday, Feb. 5) and Hico on Feb. 8. If we win both of those games, then we will be either in a tie for third place or third outright (Depending on how Meridian does).

It's still a little complicated but just like I told the kids, “It's in our hands, we determine our fate.”

We will have hosted DeLeon on Tuesday Feb. 5, and will host Hico on Feb. 8. If we can take care of business against DeLeon, then the Hico game will be a huge one for us. Please come out and support our kids against Hico on Feb. 8 @ 6:30. They would greatly appreciate your support!!!!
