Austin- Texas House of Representatives Speaker Joe Straus named Representative J.D. Sheffield to three house committees: Public Health, Corrections and Rules & Resolutions. “We need to make sure that the people of district 59 have quality healthcare available to them. I can do this best as a member of the Public Health committee.” Sheffield said. “Often if a community loses their hospital, clinic or family doctor’s office, that community begins to decline in addition to the loss of jobs.”

The Corrections Committee provides oversight to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. District 59 has a number of Texas Correctional facilities. Rules and Resolutions committee is a procedural committee for the Texas House.
