Wandah Cordell Dean

Wandah Cordell Dean, 86, passed away on January 30, 2013, in San Saba, Texas. Visitation was held on February 1, 2013, from 1:00 – 2:00 P.M. at Heritage Funeral Home San Saba. The service followed at 2:00 P.M. Interment was at Cherokee Cemetery in Cherokee, Texas.

Wandah Cordell Perry Dean was born July 26, 1926, first born of Ross and Mary Perry. Cordell lived in Cherokee, Texas most of her life with the exception of a year or two when she was very young, they moved to Ponotoc and while attending business school in Austin. She met the love of her life, Tom Dean, and married on August 25, 1950. They lived on Cherokee Ranch and then on Tom’s dad’s ranch when Gwen was born.

Cordell worked in the San Saba Tax Assessor’s office until the family went in the turkey business. She and husband, Tom also raised Brahman and Hereford cattle. Cordell loved the ranching business and worked alongside her husband.

Cordell is survived by her daughter, Gwen Dean, of Cherokee; brother, Wayland Perry, of Cherokee; sisters, Willena McKneely, of Cherokee and Naomi Barker, of Kerrville; very special niece, Sharon Blossman and husband David, of San Saba; many, many cousins, nephews, nieces and friends.

Preceding Cordell in death were her parents, Ross and Mary Perry; mother and father-in-law, Winna and Dennis Dean; brothers, Billy Mac, Maurice and Dale Perry; brothers-in-law, W.C. McKneely and Lewis Brown; sister-in-law, Marjorie Dean Brown; and husband, Tom Dean.

Officiating the service was Bro. Rye Taylor. Pall bearers were: David Blossman, Damon Blossman, Chris Perry, Randy Perry, Bronson Shanklin, Clay Perry, Lance Perry, and Celestino Rodriquez. Honorary pall bearers were: Emma Johnson, Nadine Maultsby, Pauline Longley, Wanda McKinnerney, John Benner, Calvin Hector, Richard Randolph, and Vernon Torgerson.

Cordell was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cherokee.
