From all the weather reports this area should be getting some rain, let us hope it is really going to happen. It is amazing how much green has shown up since the last rain and this past week of warm weather has really helped.

Some have already started to plow up their garden spots to start getting ready to plant the cold weather plants, but just know old man winter is still with us for a while longer.

Bonnie Millican reported that she and Pat spent January 18-20, with Geoff, Lindsay and Henry Millican in San Antonio. They had a great time visiting with grandson Henry who as Bonnie says is in perpetual motion and talks nonstop and of course Pat and Bonnie think that is awfully cute. While there they really got their exercise. They took in the train ride in Breckenridge Park, then the extended river walk 2.6 miles and around the block in his

wagon (not Pat and Bonnie), shopping at his favorite hardware store, etc.etc Bonnie and Pat returned home tired and happy and looking forward to the next visit. Sounds as if Bonnie and Pat will be in need of some good running shoes in order to keep up with their grandson.

The Super Bowl will take place February 3 and people are getting prepared to have bowl parties to watch their favorite teams play. There will be people who won’t attend Sunday night services just because of the big game as they feel that it is that important. None of the Bend churches have a Sunday night service so that works well for them. The president was even thinking of making it a special holiday, it seems to be that important to some people.

An update on Lola Morris and LaNell Daniels and LaFayne Porter. Lola was transferred from the hospital to the Lampasas Nursing home behind the hospital. If you are in Lampasas drop by to visit her. LaNell is up around and doing a lot better. She is well on the road to recovery. Look out casinos as she will soon be on the prowl. LaFayne Porter is at home and would appreciate a call and/or visit. Keep all of these ladies in your prayers.

Finally got a report from Jane Clark concerning her trip to attend the polka party in Granger. She, her sister Elsa Dean Shirley, Emerson and Gladys Brister along with Kenneth and Vanessa Shirley danced the night away and had a ball. She reported it was really nice and the food was good too. Elsa Dean stayed with Jane until Sunday and returned home Sunday afternoon. Jane is now looking for someone to go with her to Ennis to attend another polka party. She has really gotten the bug! If there are any polka fans out there you might give her a call.

Last week the report about Lesa Preece was nearly correct, but did goof on the name of the lady who was in on the chicken killing. It was Cathy Lackie

instead of Malissa Mims. There was so many feathers couldn’t really tell who it was. Lesa started receiving phone calls after the paper came out about the mix up. At least we now know that people can read, and someone just can’t

get names right.

Make plans to attend the Bend Community meeting scheduled for Saturday, February 16. Be prepared to enjoy the country western singing of Daelyn Ellis of Lampasas at 6:00 p.m. and after the singing enjoy a covered dish supper. Everyone is invited and asked to bring their favorite dish and/or dessert.

Happy birthday goes to Bonnie Millican, Jos Shoemake, and Brooklyn Harris who will be celebrating a birthday February 1, to Amanda Morris who will be

celebrating a birthday February 2, and to Margie McDowell whose birthday is February 7.
