New Chief Appraiser for San Saba County
Thursday, January 31, 2013 • Posted January 30, 2013

The Board of Directors of the Appraisal District appointed Jan Vanderburg, a 22 year employee of the Appraisal District, as Chief Appraiser. Jan has worked as the Assessor/Collector and Office Manager of the Appraisal District during that time. She has been a resident in San Saba since 1971, raising her two sons in the community of Algerita on the old home place. Jan and her husband, Adam, have four sons and daughters-in-law and six grandchildren. They have been involved in various areas of community public service and are members of the First Baptist Church.

The Appraisal District is going to be starting the year off with mailing the businesses of the county a Rendition Form, mailing letters to the ranch owners who receive the Wildlife Exemption and mailing Rendition Forms to the property owners quarrying rock. Margie Lindley, Field Appraiser, will be out in the county appraising everyone in the San Saba ISD area, along with appraising the new improvements in the county. The state comptroller's office requires the entire county to be reappraised every three years. To do this, the office breaks the county up into three areas using the ISD boundaries.

As will be reported next month, the Appraisal District office building will be having some new construction. During this renovation, which is provided by the Community Foundation of San Saba County, Inc., the Appraisal Office will be temporarily located on the second floor of the Arrowhead Bank building. The office will be closed on February 11th and 12th for the move.
