5th and 8th Grade Information Student Success Initiative Information

Standards for the STAAR Assessment will be released by Friday, January 25th. Students and parents have been given the raw score information for the STAAR Assessments given in the spring of 2012. Parents could see how many questions their students answered correctly but didn’t know how many would be required by the state to indicate “Mastery.”

There are three levels of performance on the STAAR Assessment:

1. Level I = Unsatisfactory

2. Level II = Satisfactory Academic Performance

3. Level III = Advanced Academic Performance

By the end of this week, educators, parents, and students will know where the raw score puts them in relation to these levels of performance.

SSI

There were no Student Success Initiative Requirements in 2012. Starting in 2013, Students Success Initiative (SSI) requirements will again be imposed. The SSI requirements state that 5th and 8th graders must meet Satisfactory Academic Performance on Reading and Math assessment in order to be promoted to the next grade level. There are three opportunities for 5th and 8th graders to take the state assessments in reading and math. If the student fails the second administration, he/she is required to attend Accelerated Instruction (AI) provided in summer school. Students that don’t attend AI do not have the possibility of promoting through GPC decision after the third administration. That means that students must attend the Accelerated Instruction program provided by the school if they fail the second administration of the 5th or 8th grade reading/math test. San Saba ISD will soon post the Accelerated Instruction Program information with the hope that no students are required to attend. The date for all spring state assessment is below.
