It is hard to believe that the first month of the new year is just about gone. Where did all the days go?

Last week Jane Clark and some other members of her family were to go to Granger Saturday to attend the RFD TV polka party and haven’t been heard from since. Do you suppose she is still there dancing her life away? Maybe by this time next week there will be a report on all that she did or didn’t do.

Some sad news to report about Lola Morris, Sunday afternoon she was visiting with OraBeth Hicks and Winnie Lou McCoury at her home and enjoying every minute of it. She got up to do something and fell breaking her shoulder. She is in Rollins Brook Hospital in room 201. The good thing was she had someone there to get help. Keep her in your prayers.

LaNell Daniels is now at home recuperating from her surgery.

The Bend community meeting went off as scheduled with the help of R.J. Henniger’s granddaughter and a friend of hers from Lampasas who came out to help serve the chili and stew supper. Patsy was away in California and the girls took her place as hostess for the meeting. Even R.J. showed up with his dry hummer.

It was reported that Lesa Preece and her friend Malissa Mims decided it was time to kill one of her chickens to cook. It must have been quite a thing to

watch the two, who had no idea how to go about doing what they had set out to do. They were going to build a fire and heat some water to scald the

chicken. Why build a fire when they could heat water on the stove inside and not have to bother with all the smoke from a fire. Who knows? They may have wanted to do it like their grandparents would have done it. The end of this story is incomplete as the person telling the story didn’t have any more details. It makes you wonder if they knew to pull the tail and the wing feathers first after the scalding, and if they saved the feathers to stuff a pillow with as their grandparents would have. Who knows other details may crop up at a later date? Could the chicken have been the old rooster that R.J. Henniger palmed off on Lesa?

The story has been going around that the café belonging to Sammy Johnson was purchased by the Spivey family. Do you suppose that another business will soon be opening in the Bend? Bad Bob may have some competition! A new business in downtown Bend would be good for the community. It would be nice to have a pizza place-who knows!

The mail box belonging to Raymond and Lewvon Hicks was damaged by some unnamed person living in the Bend. It seems the unknown culprit was either day dreaming or something and accidentally ran over it. No injuries reported to the culprit, just maybe his pride. You can bet he won’t be apt to do it again.

Happy birthday wishes go out to Stacy Hendrick who will enjoy a birthday January 27, to Fannie Crawford who will have a birthday January 28, to Dickie Eckhoff who will celebrate a birthday January 29 and to Vickie McDaniel who will celebrate her birthday January 30.

Congratulation goes out to Jerome and Shirley Meischen who will celebrate their 56th anniversary January 26.
