June Elizabeth Wilder Clark

June Elizabeth Wilder Clark passed peacefully from this life on January 14, 2013 in Pasadena, TX. June was born June 3, 1929 to Kate and Ray Hiram Wilder Sr. in San Saba TX. She attended school in San Saba TX and her election as a UIL essay writing contestant led to a lifelong love of writing. Baptized at an early age June had a strong faith and love of God. She was a member of the Church of Christ attending services regularly throughout most of her life.

June married Norman Dale Clark on November 15, 1952. They were very happily married for 57 years and had two children, Sue Kate and Don Arnold. After returning to school June graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Arts in 1970 and a Master of Arts in 1971, also completing hours towards her PHD. She was a member of Phi Kappa Pi and Sigma Delta Pi which honors excellence in the study of the Spanish language, culture and literature. She received numerous other awards for scholastic achievement.

June taught English for 25 years at Sam Rayburn High School, and served as coach for the UIL essay team. She loved teaching and her dedication and diligence impacted many lives. Many of June’s students expressed their thanks and gratitude to “Mrs. Clark”. June had many close friends from the school’s faculty and staff, and particularly enjoyed time spent traveling with these friends throughout the U.S. and overseas. Following her retirement in 1995 June was happy to spend time with her husband, children and grandchildren. June battled health problems during the last months of her life, and her great granddaughter, Charlotte was a great joy and inspiration to her. June was a resident of Pasadena TX for over 60 years.

June was preceded in death by her husband and parents; brothers Ray Jr., Jack and Joe Wilder; sisters, Sara Kate Thornton and Carol Sue Jeffrey. She is survived by daughter, Sue Hepler and husband, Matthew; son, Don Clark and wife, De Vonn; granddaughters, Ashley Davila and Megan; grandson, Tyler; Ashley’s husband, Anthony Davila and great granddaughter, Charlotte; one brother, Billy Wilder; sisters in law, Ernie and Vondene Wilder; brothers in law, James Thornton and Paul Jeffrey, and many much loved nieces, nephews and cousins.

June asked her children to thank all of her family and friends as each had a special place in her heart and a particular influence on her life. The family also wishes to thank the staffs of Methodist Hospital particularly the Outpatient team, Paramount Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation, and the excellent doctors who have cared for June and their staffs.

Funeral services were held at Heritage Funeral Home, San Saba TX, January 18, 11:00 a.m., burial followed at San Saba City cemetery. Visitation was prior to service at 10:00 a.m. The family requests remembrances made to San Saba EMS, c/o of Loy Nell Behrens, 1102 CR 144, San Saba, TX 76877 or charity of your choice.
