SSISD Board of Trustees honored at Regular Meeting

The Board of Trustees of San Saba ISD held a Regular Meeting on Monday, January 14th at 7:15 p.m. in the Central Administration office. President, Kim Kirk called the meeting to order and established a quorum was present, which was followed by everyone joining for the pledges to the American and Texas flags. Trustee Kevin Shahan gave the invocation.

Presentations were given to the Board of Trustees to honor them for School Board Appreciation Month. The Elementary School gave a “Thank You” video; Middle School gave a large wall calendar listing school events and an invitation for the trustees to visit; High School gave a wood basket in the shape of Texas filled with goodies.

Tom Rehak and Mike Nelson gave a progress report on the construction and presented photos of the Elementary west end site where cement had been poured and the east end which was formed up to pour Tuesday, January 15th.

High School Principal, Brian Williams gave Certificates of Recognition to the following students: Dusty Parum, Dylan Rosales, Leigh Riggs, Ricardo Garcia and Emily Escula; not present were Peyton Johnson, Kayla Kutin and Marissa Anaya. Also recognized were teachers, Ms. Brook Bagley and Ms. Stephany Seaver.

Middle School Principal, Vicki Key, gave a Certificate of Recognition to student, Enrique Davila and teacher, Kendall Simmons.

The Elementary Student of the month was presented to Risien Shahan by Assistant Superintendent, Michael Bohensky.

Superintendent, Leigh Ann Glaze gave the following information:

A. The next School Board meeting will be Monday, February 11th at 6 p.m.

B. They qualified for $1200 for the 6 Cent Cafeteria Program.

C. Upcoming dates of interest: Professional Development Days are Jan. 21 and Feb. 18; March 4, TAKS Exit - ELA; Spring Break starts March 11.

D. The Team Building with Holly Wardell will be 3 hrs. on Thurs. Feb. 21st, 5:30 p.m.

E. Trustee election will be May 11th with sign-up for candidates starting January 30th.

F. A letter was read from the George Dennis family thanking SSISD for the dinner, the letters, and having the building named after him.

G. School enrollment at this time is 736; enrollment at the end of last year was 706.

The following Consent Agenda was approved:

1. The Regular and Executive Meeting minutes of December 13th.

2. Amendments to 2012-2013 budget.

3. Approval to pay bills.

4. The financial report.

5. Accepted one student transfer.

6. The combined training hours for school board members is 538 hours.

President, Kim Kirk gave an Appraisal District report which included that an offer had been made to buy the railroad; the Nursing Home property will be up for sale in six months; and an Interim Chief Appraiser had been hired.

Assistant Superintendent, Michael Bohensky distributed booklets that gave test scores for the Middle School and the High School; reported on the High School improvements, the Elementary AYP progress and that each campus has formed UIL committees.

President Kirk announced a ten minute break before the Executive session.
