Each January we take a moment to recognize the elected officials that lead our school districts- January is officially School Board Appreciation Month. We should recognize these folks all year long as they work on behalf of students and staff and receive no compensation. Our thanks and appreciation is all they receive in the way of appreciation for the work they do monthly and all year long. Typically, like school administrators, school board members only hear the negative, they rarely hear the good things that parents like and feel about the school district. So if you like something, please feel free to let them know.

What do school board members do? School board members don’t just attend meetings. They assist in governing the district and setting goals for the district. School Board members set the direction of the district and the vision. Combined our school board members have 538 hours of training. Who are the members of the SSISD Board of Trustees? President, Kim Kirk Vice-President, Marcie Maxcey; Secretary, Kevin Shahan and members Michael Deans, Misty Everett, Angela Johnson and Susie Nettleship. School Board members serve for 3-year terms and elections are held annually in May. School Board members fill one of the very most important volunteer roles in our community. They serve because they are interested in kids. Kids are the future of the community and the nation so serving on the school board is a most important stewardship.

Please take the time to THANK the school board members who represent the citizens of San Saba. Students and staff from each campus will be expressing their thanks to the board members at the regular monthly meeting held January 14, 2013. Thank you Trustees for all your hard work and the commitment to improve San Saba ISD for all students.

Don’t forget that Monday, January 21, 2013 is a professional development day for SSISD staff. Students do not attend school on this date! Parents, let us know how we can help you the first day of school all the way until the last day of school!!
