The Campfire

Last weekend, I attended a father/son or daughter outing. It was neat to see the fathers trying to bond with their children. It was not just fathers; there were also some grandfathers there.

They got up early that morning and were out and about all day; when they came in that night, they were tired. My part was to give a devotional talk by the campfire. It was neat to see the children sitting in their dad's laps or close to them. I shared just as those fathers were trying to bond with their children, God wants to do the same with us. God is not some mean, hateful God, but a loving and very caring God (1 John 4:7). He wants to have fellowship with us and for us to be close to Him.

It took that outdoor event to get those fathers and children together, but those children had to be willing to go, (Romans 5:8). The way to be close to God is through Jesus Christ and that is just the beginning, (1 Peter 3:18).

God wants to go with and be with us all of our life, and to have a close relationship with us just like fathers with their children, (1 John 4:13-16). If we never ask God to forgive our sins and call upon Jesus Christ, we will not have that close relationship, (Romans 6:23, John 3:16).

See you in Church next Sunday.
