On Tuesday, January 13th, the San Saba JV Lady Dillos took on Comanche. We ended up falling short to Comanche 23-11. Comanche has some big girls and quickness that we could not stop. We were able to hang with them in the 1st quarter, but after that we could never get back in our groove. I thought overall we played decent.

Samantha Henry led all scoring with 7 points, while Taylor Smith and Ashley Pulatie chipped in 2 points a piece. We just were not able to score on the offensive end which killed us. Our defense is looking much better, but now I keep stressing to the girls we have to fix our offense. Defense is the key to winning games, but if you can’t make any shots then you’re not going to win anyways!

This was also true as we took on Coleman last Friday night. I knew this game was going to be tough for us, but I was overall pleased with it even though we fell 26-18. Coleman has some very athletic girls and I was proud that we were able to hang with them. At the end of the 1st quarter it was tied at 4. We definitely came out and showed them that we could play with them. Going into halftime, we were down 6 (16-10) due to turnovers caused from them pressing us full court. We struggled quite a bit and I believe that was the factor of the game. This goes back to my point I made earlier, we have to get better on the offensive side and learn to handle the ball better. Silvia Jimenez led all scoring with 7 points. Ashley Pulatie was second in scoring with 6 points and following her was Henry with 5 points.

We will play Dublin and Bangs this week to open up the second round of district play. We are going to have to play good Tuesday to win against Dublin, but hopefully we can pull out a win on the road. Friday, we play Bangs here at 4:00 p.m. followed by the JV boys at 5:00 p.m. We lost to Bangs last time we played them, but they are definitely beatable. We lost to them by 17. I think we were looking ahead to the break and wasn’t really focused on the game. Also, we did not have Samantha Henry this game so I believe we could definitely beat them this time around. Friday is also a big game for the Varsity girls so come out and show your support for them!
