Lady Dillo Basketball Report
Thursday, January 22, 2009 • Posted January 22, 2009

The San Saba Lady Dillos captured two wins last week and ended up the first half of play tied with the Bangs Lady Dragons and Early Lady Horns at 5-1.

Last Tuesday we defeated Comanche 41-28. The game was a little tight in the first half with us being up only two at halftime, 19-17. We got several open looks but our shots just wouldn’t fall. If Plan A isn’t working then go to Plan B and that’s what our ladies did as they played great defense throughout the entire game.

We came out in the third quarter and outscored the Maidens 14-3. Holding a team under thirty points for four quarters is outstanding and our Lady Dillos need to be commended for their effort and intensity on the defensive end.

Comanche really tried to control tempo as they ran a ball controlled offense with lots of screens and dribble handoffs. Our ladies really worked on the defensive end and played solid for the entire game.

Haylee Oliver lead us with 13 points followed by Shelby Hardy with 12. Calea Turner and Katy Davis each chipped in 9 points.

Our guards also did a great job of pressuring and harassing their guards all night. Friday must’ve been “GroundHog Day” in Coleman as we pretty much had the same type of game versus the LadyKatts.

Once again we got open looks but the ball didn’t seem to find the basket much. We were up 21-14 at halftime and were only up three ending the third quarter, 30-27, but we had a big fourth quarter outscoring Coleman, 15-5.

We forced several turnovers thoughout the game but couldn’t capitalize on Coleman’s mistakes.

Haylee Oliver lead us in scoring with 13 followed by Shelby Hardy with 12. Calea Turner chipped in 8 and Katy Davis tallied 6 points as well.

Like I said, as far as the final score and points these two games were very similar.

When the article comes out we will have opened the second round of District play at Dublin. Our game Friday will be versus the Bangs Lady Dragons, the only team to defeat us all year. Hopefully, we will have taken care of business in Dr. Pepper Land and will be ready to atone our lone loss of the year. Let’s have a loud and awesome crowd and let’s send the Dragons back home to their lair with a thumping. We appreciate all your support and look forward to a Mighty Dillo Crowd.
