MARBLE FALLS, TX - As construction of the Scott & White Specialty Clinic - Marble Falls at the Hurd Regional Medical Center continues with an anticipated opening of June 2013, Scott & White Healthcare has announced today it is bringing cancer services to the facility in a phased rollout.
The oncology treatment services, to be housed on the third floor of the clinic, will initially include a waiting and check-in area, six infusion bays, including an isolation bay, infusion pharmacy, and three exam rooms. With adjacent shell space, this allows for additional expansion in the future based on patient needs. Phase II of the cancer services rollout is expected to include radiation therapy.
Chief Medical Officer Randall Grimshaw, M.D., of the Scott & White Hill Country region, explains, “creating this dedicated space for oncology care inside our specialty clinic brings convenient access to high quality care to those living in the Hill Country who currently have to travel from their homes for cancer treatment.”
The Scott & White Specialty Clinic – Marble Falls serves as the “anchor” for the Hurd Regional Medical Center Campus, named for Hill Country visionaries Wayne and Eileen Hurd. Construction of the clinic is scheduled for completion next spring and is a significant step in recruiting the physicians that will deliver outpatient care while the new hospital is built.
Kevin Leeper, CEO of the Scott & White Hill Country Region and COO of the Hill County clinics, explains that “bringing oncology services to our community reaffirms our commitment to the regional medical center and being responsive to the needs of our current and future patients. However, this is going to be a phased rollout with the second phase expected to include radiation therapy services.”
Scott & White plans to open the 46-bed hospital by the end of 2014.
The first phase of the Scott & White hospital will consist of 46 beds, with plans to provide infrastructure to accommodate expansion to more than 80 beds. The facility will offer multispecialty services including extended-hours primary care, cardiology, general surgery, orthopedics, podiatry, ophthalmology, gastrointestinal and pain management. Design and construction are expected to take about 24 months.
Scott & White partnered with the City of Marble Falls and Llano Memorial Health System in 2007 on plans to build a major medical center. The campus is near the intersection of U.S. 281 and TX 71, positioned near the water tower and sewer lines serviced by the City of Marble Falls. A groundbreaking ceremony in November 2011 signaled the official start of construction on the project.
