San Saba City Council hols regular meeting

The San Saba City Council held a Regular Session on Monday, December 10th, at 6:00 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers. Mayor Ken Jordan called the Session to order and announced a quorum present with Alderman Mark Amthor absent. Alderman Shawn Oliver gave the invocation followed by everyone joining for the pledges to the American and Texas flags.

The Employee of the Month award was presented by Golf Pro, Chuck Jennings to Jerry Turner, Golf Course Superintendent. His name is added to the plaque, he will get a day off work with pay and a $25 gift certificate to a local restaurant.

The following Consent Agenda items were approved:

1. Minutes from the November 13th & 16th Council meetings.

2. Payment of bills presented to Council.

3. Resolution No. 2012-35 authorizing the signatories required for implementation of a new Texas Community Development Block Grant program Fund Grant, Contract #712331.

4. Resolution No. 2012-36, contract between City and County for the Emergency Management Coordinator position.

Action was taken on the following items:

A. Approved Ordinance No.2012-15 amending Ordinance No. 2012-10 specifically “Exhibit A” Fee Schedule for certain city services.

B. Approved Resolution No. 2012-37 reappointing three members (Rick Baskin, Owen Parks and Martha Leigh Whitten) to the San Saba Economic Development Corporation for terms expiring January 2015.

C. Approved Resolution No. 2012-38 reappointing three members (Gail Bruner, Sharon Clawson, Kevin Shahan) to the San Saba Planning and Zoning Commission for new terms expiring January 2016.

D. Approved Resolution No. 2012-39 reappointing four members (Fern Reed, Gail Bruner, Debbie Shahan, Patty Shaw) to the Keep San Saba Beautiful Commission for terms expiring January 2015.

E. Approved Ordinance No.

2012-16 authorizing and ordering the issuance of City of San Saba tax notes, series 2012 with Government Capital, presented by Financial Advisor, Christian Merritt.

City Manager, Stan Weik reported on the following:

a. Juan Mantoya was named Employee of The Year at the Employee Christmas Party.

b. The newly decorated and lighted Mill Pond Park has received many good comments and visitors. The Parks Department is commended for implementing this attraction.

c. The Electric Department received First Place in the Lighted Christmas Parade Saturday December 8th.

d. The Parks Committee and Streets Committee both held meetings for plans for the new year.

e. Starting 2013, a yearly physical exam will be recommended for City employees.

f. Weik has been employed by the City for five years.

g. The Water Department worked on a sizable leak on Clear Street.

Mayor Jordan adjourned the Session at 6:30 p.m.
