Bruce Harkey, owner of Harkey Pecans, San Saba, Texas, brought in the first pecans to The News Office, Tuesday, September 13th. They are a Hybrid Native named Martha. The pecans grew from a tree that was in a cotton field and plowed under for years until in 1919 it was allowed to grow. Bruce & his wife Jennifer were married under this tree that is still growing in an orchard at Hwy 190 W and Sloan Road.
