Lady Dillo Report
Thursday, January 15, 2009 • Posted January 15, 2009

My apologies for not having an article last week, Tuesday rolled around and I realized that I had missed the journalism deadline.

We have played two games since my last article capturing two wins and we had a much needed open date where we worked on our cardiovascular lung capacity volume. We had a great three days of practice so hopefully we’re ready to roll and finish out the season strong.

We played Brady for our fourth district game and beat them convincingly 53-23. We had a great second quarter where we netted 25 points in this quarter. We lead 33-9 at halftime and never looked back. Brady really sagged on our post play and the posts did a nice job of reading the defense and kicking the ball out to our guards. Calea Turner had a big night scoring 14 points as she hit four three pointers. Katy Davis poured in 12 and Haylee Oliver added 9.

Last Tuesday we got the 500 pound GORILLA off our back as we defeated our arch rival the Early Lady Horns 49-42 over at the corral.

We started off like a “house a fire” as we were up 12-3 in the first quarter but give the Lady Horns credit as they stormed back and took a 21-15 lead at one point in the second quarter. We settled down a bit before halftime and hit some big three pointers to give us a 28-23 lead at halftime.

We pushed the lead to 40-32 to end the third quarter and then withstood a furious Lady Horn rally to bring home a well earned victory.

We played hard and didn’t fold at crunch time. We showed a great deal of maturity and beat a team that has “had” our number over the last two years. The game was definitely a contrast of styles as our three point bombs tried to counter their heighth.

We hit 8 three pointers lead by Calea Turner who hit three of the eight. Tarah Crosby also had two big threes at the end of the third quarter that really gave us a lift.

Shelby Hardy and Katy Davis lead us in the board department with 5 each. Tarah Crosby had 4 assists and Haylee Oliver had three steals to lead in these categories as well. When this article comes out we will have played Comanche on Tuesday and then travel to Coleman on Friday to battle the Lady Katts.

There is a time change on Friday but it only involves the JV teams. The JV girls will play at 5:00 p.m. and the JV Boys will play at 6:30 p.m. in the Old High School Gym at Coleman. The Varsity girls game will still be at 6:30 p.m. followed by the Varsity Boys.
