Lady Dillo Basketball Report
Thursday, January 1, 2009 • Posted January 1, 2009

The San Saba Lady Dillos recorded one win and one loss before the Christmas Break. We started off District with a bang with a big home win over Dublin (74-31) and then we suffered our first loss of the year falling at Bangs (43-31). We jumped on Dublin early and never looked back. We shot the ball well and had a huge halftime lead.

Haylee Oliver lead all scorers with 16 followed by Katy Davis with14. Shelby Hardy also chipped in 13 points. Calea Turner, Shelby Hardy, and Haylee Oliver each recorded 5 steals, Shelby Hardy also added 5 assists. Haylee Oliver had 11 boards with 8 of them being on the offensive end.

On Friday we ventured to Dragonland and were defeated 43-31. We played poorly and I coached poorly and that’s about all that needs to be said. We’ll regroup from this and be ready to go. We had a great first half of the season going 19-1 but losing a district game is tough to swallow but athletics is a learning experience and we’ll push on and be ready to go.

Our JV defeated Dublin as Samantha Henry had a big night on the offensive end along with Taylor Smith and Ashley Pulatie. Paige Chambers, Silvia Jimenez and Rebecca Paredes had big nights on the defensive end as well as the JV won their district opener as well.

The JV also fell to the Lady Dragons to end the Christmas Break at 1-1 in District. We fell behind early and were never able to recover. We did cut the lead to single digits in the second half but the early deficit was too much to overcome.

When the paper comes out we will have returned to action versus Jarrell on Tuesday. On Friday we begin our push again for the gold ball as we play Brady in our third district game.

This will be the first time that we play with the boys so we’re hoping for a huge crowd for all teams. What else would you do on Friday night in San Saba? If the weather is cold, come inside Armadillo Arena and get warmed up to some sizzlin’ basketball action this Friday night!!

The JV girls will start at 4:00 p.m. and the Varsity girls will be at 6:30 p.m. Don’t give up on us just because we “stubbed our toe” in Bangs, we’ll play hard and compete for you guys but we need you all to be the best 6th man in the Hill Country. We’re still thinking of you Jordan, be tough and keep getting strong.
