At 12:01 a.m. on January 1, 2013, newly elected San Saba County Sheriff Steve Boyd and his Chief Deputy Rickye Feist were sworn into office by Justice of the Peace Les Dawson. Sheriff Boyd stated: "I actually started working before the 1st. The first partial week was spent acclimating myself to the San Saba County policies and procedures.

The San Saba County Youth Fair will be held Thursday, January 17th-19th, at the San Saba Civic Center. All San Saba County Youth are encouraged to enter. Entries that have been made anytime since the 2012 Youth Fair (Janaury 20, 2012) are eligible. Categories include: Food, Education, Photography, Art, Craft and Technology.

Longtime San Saba ISD Educator, George Dennis was honored with a luncheon provided by San Saba ISD staff and school board on Friday, December 21, 2012. A massive survey by an authoritative committee has recently been developed to determine the worshipful and spiritual conditions of the world. Many surprises were discovered by this committee, but the most disturbing report of their finding was the fact that Christianity was rapidly decreasing in America. It has been taken as fact that America has been the most Christian nation in the world for generations of time.

Now is a good time of year to look over our schedules and evaluate them. We do not have to follow the old and can start anew if need be. God needs to be in our lives but sadly, many people leave God totally out of the picture, and this can lead to sorrowful consequences.

Sometimes we shake our heads because we hear some news that is disturbing. At other times we wring our hands because we do not know what we should do in a certain situation. Sometimes we just throw up our hands and walk away not facing the reality of a situation. We've all been there at one time or another.

40 Years Ago January 11, 1973 San Saba Volunteer Firemen, at their first meeting of the year on Thursday night, Jan. 4, held their annual officer election and named Don Woodruff as Fire Chief for 1973. Postmaster Arnold C. Behrens killed the heaviest deer during the 1972 hunting season that was weighed in at the San Saba Locker Plant and received the trophy awarded by San Saba County Chamber of Commerce.

1. Do I need to pre-register Youth Fair Entries? No. All you need to do is to bring the all entries except the technology ones to the Civic Center on Thursday January 17th from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Technology ones are to be brought to the Extension Office in the Courthouse on Monday January 14th between 4-5 p.m. 2.

Donna Kaye Stewart, age 68 of Lampasas, Texas died December 28, 2012 at Scott & White Memorial Hospital in Temple, Texas. She was born August 1, 1944 in Lampasas, Texas, the daughter of Donald Bordner and Ora Dell (Smith) Bordner. Donna was a hairdresser and the owner of Donna’s Beauty Salon.

Jack T. Taff, 84, a lifetime resident of San Saba, Texas, passed away Monday, January 7, 2013 at his residence in San Saba. He was born November 2, 1928 in San Saba, the son of William T. Taff and Bessie Linn Taff. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict after which time he returned home to farm and ranch. Lewis O. Jones Jr. passed away on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 in the loving comfort of his family at the age of 84 years old. Lewis was born on June 4, 1928 to the late Lewis O. Jones Sr. and Ola (Kegley) Jones in Temple, Texas. After graduating from Temple High School, Lewis joined the US Air Force.

Roberto Torres, Sr., of San Saba, Texas, passed away Sunday, December 30,2012, at his home in San Saba, at the age of 77. He was born June 1, 1935 in Rocksprings, Texas, the son of Francisco Torres and Eloisa Martinez Torres. Later, as a young adult, Roberto Torres and Manuelita Rodriguez were married and made their home in San Saba where he followed his job, shearing sheep and working in the pecan industry.
