Gotta love playoff football, especially the six-man variety. The census of tiny Richland Springs swelled on Friday night to at least three times the population number posted on the highway sign as Six-Man fans from all over the state made the trek to watch the vaunted matchup between the Eagles of Jonesboro and the top-ranked Coyotes of Richland Springs.

There is so much about this season I love but each year I see what I love being diminished by the invasion of the obnoxious, material, and more is better mentality. It would be one thing if the intentions were noble, sincere or even good; but there is only one reason for any of it and it is capital gain.

Do you like popcorn? Is it one of your favorite snacks? Popcorn can be a healthy snack, if made with little or no added salt and butter. It’s also good for you because it counts as a whole grain. USDA’s Choose MyPlate recommends getting at least half of your grains from whole grains.

So many people are making cell phone calls today. It is interesting to observe people talking and trying to drive at the same time unless they almost hit your automobile or almost run over you. It's not just while driving but it is at the malls, grocery stores and who knows where else.
All those people talking reminds me of something in the Bible.

Did you take part in shopping last weekend? Maybe you saw that in some of the stores there was fighting going on. I don't mean just pushing and shoving, but fighting.
In a Wal-Mart in Georgia they opened the doors to let the shoppers in and the crowd descended. Everyone was trying to get a discounted iphone.

The woman asked the silversmith if it was true that he had to sit in front of the fire the whole time the silver was being refined. "Oh yes!" he replied. "I cannot take my eyes off the silver. If it is left in the furnace even a moment too long, it will be destroyed."
The woman suddenly understood the beauty and comfort of Malachi 3:3: "He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver."
We may be knocked down and kicked around by life, but if we have a relationship with Jesus ...

One bucolic autumn day not long ago I was out in the pasture on the 4 wheeler. I nearly always take the opportunity to bird a little when I’m checking the cattle, but don’t tell my husband. He thinks I’m hard at work (or maybe not). Anyway, a song from a long, long time ago started playing in my head and just wouldn’t be ignored.
Dottie West would have been insulted by my incorrectly attributing it to Connie Smith, but it goes something like this: I was ra ...

Nowadays, individuals so named risk being besmirched in cataclysmic proportions. "Rachel" could drop out of the top 4,200, perhaps even plummet into "worst of the worst" choices.
A robo-caller, "Rachel from Card Member Services," begins her canned, spam-inspired spiel, with assurance that I’m in no trouble with my credit card.
