I wondered how long it would be before Patches would tire of only having an occasional voice in a weekly newspaper column. The weeks he writes this column are difficult ones to live through because Harold and I must listen to one line teasers about what will be seen in print on Wednesday and put up with his constant boasting.

How many hours of sleep do you get? Are you restless some nights and just don’t get as much sleep? Sometimes do you go to bed late because you had a lot to do? If you do not get enough sleep, you could eat more calories and that could lead to weight gain.

This is always a wonderful time of the year. We can take the opportunity to remember to give thanks for the many blessings that we've been given. Sometimes we take these for granted. So, if for nothing else we can reflect on why God has been good to us.There may be someone who says "But this has been a horrible year."

When the Pilgrims celebrated the first Thanksgiving in America they were acknowledging their gratitude to God for His countless gifts of love. That's the originating spirit of our holiday, Thanksgiving, and I think it's great! The Psalmist tells us in 92:1, "It is good to praise the Lord." We need to give thanks, whether our cup is filled to overflowing or whether it is almost empty.

For the fourth time in the same year I am writing about losing someone I love. This time it is one of those God-family members—you know, the people that are not related by blood or marriage, but are the family that God gives to you. God gave my family Charley and Earleen Brister to be parents and friends to my husband and I, and to be grandparents to our children.
