The San Saba Pecan Growers will sponsor the 2012 County Pecan Show on November 26th and 27th. Entries MUST be in the Courthouse on or before noon November 21st!! You may enter one sample per variety. A sample consists of forty pecans. If you do not know the variety we will make every effort to classify the sample.Processing will begin at 1:00 p.m.

It looks like our Spring like weather may soon come to an end, if the weather reports are correct.More and more hunters show-ed up this past weekend and from all accounts record bucks were taken. There are still plenty of bucks to be had.The election is gone and done with.

Well our hunters have been successful yet again. My son Shane and his two buddies, Chris and Beau, drove down from the Dallas area to help me thin out these deer. When I drove up yesterday evening there were five of them bedded down just outside the fence. There are three less does as of tonight.

Last week one of my neighbors was telling how another neighbor down the road came home early and encountered a young man entering his home and another putting my neighbor's possessions in their car. He called the sheriff and chased them down the road. The sheriff was able to intercept them and they were apprehended.

The Christmas Bazaar will begin at 12 noon on Saturday, November 17, 2012, at the San Saba Civic Center. This event is a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society and is being sponsored by the Performance Talent San Saba County Relay for Life Team.One of the teams from the Cherokee Home for Children will be serving homemade chili and all the trimmings.

Mr. T.D. Botello has been named Resident of the Month at PVNR for the month of November. Mr. Botello was born in 1920 in Brady, Texas and moved to San Saba in 1935 at the age of 15. Before retiring, he was a day laborer and says he has done a “little bit of everything” in his lifetime which includes raising two daughters and one son.

Twenty San Saba Garden Club members, along with three guests, met at the new Community Garden on East Storey Street at the Senior Citizens Center on Tuesday, November 6th, a beautiful fall day for enjoying the outdoors and conducting a monthly meeting! Refreshments provided by hostesses Imogene Hawkins, Carol Littlefield, Louise Oswald, and Marilyn Miller were enjoyed by all at picnic tables on the new covered patio area.

The Sharon Club met at the Parish Hall of St. Luke's Episcopal Church on November 6, 2012, with Charlotte Holland as hostess and the Social Committee as co-hostess. Our new member, Nancy Van Etten, and her husband, Chuck, joined us for a delicious Mexican food dinner. After the business meeting, and plans made for our Thanksgiving baskets, members adjourned and exchanged Secret Pal gifts.

Cole Valiente, 8 years old, shot this 7 point buck during the morning hunt on 11/10/12. He was hunting on the 5 Star Ranch near San Saba. It was his first deer.

Receipts totaled 1824 head for the week. Demand was good and the market was active with the stocker steers and heifers selling steady and the feeder steers selling steady to $2.00 lower and heifers selling steady. Packer cows and bulls also sold steady. Demand was good on the big group of bred cows offered selling from $1230-$1430.

Frank Wayne Churchill was born at home on June 14, 1928 in Oakley Kansas. Frank’s parents were Charles Wayne & Adah Mae (Lamb) Churchill. Frank attended Oakley High School and he graduated from Oakley High School in 1947. Frank married Bobbie May Wilson at his parents’ home in Oakley Kansas on August 31, 1948.

Mrs. Pulatie’s 7th grade Pre-AP class received their new novels for this six weeks. It is a copy of the book The Young Traveler’s Gift by Andy Andrews. The students were very excited about the fact that the author personally signed each copy. The book is about a young boy who questions his future and his very existence.

Congratulations to our cross country teams and coaches for an outstanding season that ended this past Saturday with great effort at the State Championships. The San Saba Armadillos tamed the Santo Wildcats at historic Rogan Field last Friday night to close out the regular season by the score of 49-21. The Wildcats outgained San Saba 399-316, but the Armadillos turned three Santo fumbles into scores with the good field position.Santo won the toss and elected to receive the opening kick.

There was no joy in Brooke-smith this past Friday night. The Mustangs had won only one game this year and had to close out their season at home against the the undefeated #1 ranked Mighty Coyotes of Richland Springs. The first 7 seconds of the game produced 8 points for the Coyotes via an onside kick return by Thomas Fowler.

WE DID IT! WE DID IT! We got our 7th shutout in a row and by the way WE ARE DISTRICT CHAMPIONS! Our record was 8 and 2. Great job guys. We are very proud of you. You had a very memorable season. Oh by the way we beat Santo by the score of 24 to 0.

The San Saba Ladies Golf Association met November 7, 2012 for play day, with Janet Hoyt calling for a game of playing the holes that begin with the letters T & F, less half your handicap. First place was a tie between Jo Anne Hardy, who also won the Putt Pot and was the Low Gross and Low Net for the day, and Dorothy Sterner.

The San Saba Lady Dillos started off their season with a big win over the Ingram Lady Warriors. The Lady Dillos jumped out to a 21-5 first quarter lead and never looked back. The Lady Dillos went on to defeat Ingram by a score of 74-33. We were able to overwhelm the Lady Warriors with our full court pressure and it allowed us to create a lot of turnovers and easy scoring opportunities.

On the fifth of November, the Cherokee FFA attended the Leadership Development Event district competition in Goldthwaite. Courtney Hull got sixth place in Jr. Creed. The Greenhand Quiz team, consisting of Holly Vaughn, Debra Arredondo, Sophia Monroe, and Tommy Henegar, placed seventh. The Senior Quiz team, consisting of Sidonie Vega, Emily Skaggs, and Barbara Uribe, placed sixth.

The Brookesmith Mustangs JH were no match for the young Coyotes of Richland Springs. The younger Coyotes mercy-ruled the Mustangs to close out a fine 6-2 record for the season. These Coyotes are young, in age only, most are veterans of Championship Pee-Wee and Flag teams of the past few years.

We are getting very close to the end of the second six weeks and soon the end of the first semester. It is very concerning how quickly time is passing and the few days that we have left to get much needed instruction completed. On top of needed instruction time, several students will be taking End of Course Exams (EOC’s) soon hoping to pass at the higher level II standard.
