Very seldom in life do we have the privilege of meeting really successful and notable people. Living in rural Central Texas inhibits us from coming into contact with those "successful" ones. But what if you could meet someone like that right here in little San Saba County? What if he's just written a book that gives you a "play-by-play"

My Plate tells us that one fourth of our plate should be grains and also half of our grains should be whole grains. What exactly are grains? Any food made with wheat, rice, oats, cornmeal, barley or another grain. Some examples would be bread, pasta, oatmeal, breakfast cereals, tortillas and grits.

I saw a cartoon the other day that I thought was just great! There was a large crane on those stilt-like legs and it had a frog in its mouth. Now you would certainly think that a frog in the mouth would mean the utter destruction for the poor creature.

It is my husband’s favorite holiday—the opening weekend of deer season. Truthfully, it is the kickoff to the holiday season for my family. Thanksgiving, the kickoff holiday for most people, has turned into another deer camp event, but with a really, really nice meal or two included. This plan is convenient for me in that it spurs me to get my Christmas shopping done very early.Opening weekend has grown and grown over the years.

My husband (somewhat of a dust devil himself ) and I were driving down the county road the other day and saw several dust devils which reminded me of what the old cowboys used to say - if it turned a certain way it meant rain and if it was spinning the other way it meant drought, but I couldn't remember which way was which.

The skies are gray here in Richland, but so far no rain has blessed our area. I do love the weather though. Those cool nights and warm days are a joy. The Phoebes are back in town. I hear them just before sunrise calling to one another. I have another visitor as well.

One of the neatest things the founders and crafters of our country did was design our government to be for and by the people. That means we have a say in who our leaders will be. Very shortly we will be faced again with the decision of which candidates to vote for.
