2 PETER 1:14 “Knowing that shortly I must put off this flesh tabernacle as our LORD JESUS CHRIST hath shown me.” This may be another message that many may think is being repeated too often, but I am sincere in believing that ALMIGHTY GOD is giving me a strong feeling to write it as a warning that we are living in the latter days of this temporary flesh life.

The night may have been young when Harold and I arrived at the courthouse to carve out our little place for the street dance, but as cold as the air was, my bones started to rattle a tune way before the drummer thought about hitting a lick! To say I chose a non-traditional form of attire for the dance that evening is to err way on the side of understatement.

A typical family dinner takes about 25 minutes to prepare and lasts about 20 minutes. Family roles are changing. Often, the entire burden of food shopping, planning, and preparation does not fall to the wife alone. Family members, including husbands, are helping in the kitchen, too.Eating family dinner improves nutrition, and there is a solid link between nutrition and improved health.

Do you enjoy game shows? Some of them are interesting to watch. Some of them have also been around for years. One of these is the Wheel of Fortune. Indeed, some have won a small fortune by playing a game for about twenty minutes. Those who play "Wheel" win money, prizes from different companies, occasionally a car, and trips that they could probably never afford. The thing to remember is that it is a game.

We have been having some chilly weather since the cool front came through last weekend. We had our first fire in the fireplace and it felt good. Wanted to remind everyone of the 42 tournament this Saturday night in Elm Grove and the Gospel singing on the 20th. All singers, piano players or other musicians, or just interested listeners are invited.

Reading Recommendations: Sarah Thornhill, a novel, Kate GrenvilleWhen The Secret River, a novel about frontier violence in early Australia appeared in 2005, it became an instant best seller and garnered praise for its unflinching look at Australia's notorious history. Grenville's follow-up novel, The Lieutenant, continued her exploration of Australia's first settlement and again elicited controversy for its brazen view of her homeland's beginnings.

Good farmers know that one cannot keep harvesting crops from a tract without putting something back into it. To restore nitrogen, phosphate and potash - as essential for growing crops as earth, sun and rain - those chemicals must be reintroduced into the soil. Otherwise, land will produce less and less yield until it is depleted of its fertility. Some people don't realize that the same principal applies to life.

The trough across the highway from the house no longer functions for livestock purposes but does hold when it rains. Because of the threat of West Nile virus, I have been cautious of any stagnant water. I had noticed several kinds of bugs in the shallow holdings, but no mosquito larvae.

Several days ago a man dropped by the house and gave us a loaf of handmade sourdough rye bread bake in a wood-fired oven. It was delicious. That beautiful loaf of bread reminded me of something in the Bible. The Bible has a lot to say about giving and giving gifts.

It’s Sunday and I’m snuggled under a blanket wearing a pair of sweats and socks! The first cold snap has struck! We even had a little rain last night as an added bonus. I am a wimp when it comes to cold. I attended the social event of the week Saturday, the Brockman/Oldham wedding, and I for sure froze.

Austin artist Montena Fink-Lacy has taken the phrase “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure” to a whole new, and higher, level. In her paintings and photographs on exhibit at Cherokee Charm, the artist captures the uncommon beauty of the common detritus of society – the plastic flotsam that has fluttered and soared along America’s highways and byways, only to come to its uneasy rest in the grasping branches of trees or upon the unforgiving barbs of fen ...

Last week the Cherokee FFA beautified their two mile stretch of highway 16. They adopted their strip of highway last year, and since then have been striving to uphold their responsibility of making Texas beautiful. Officers were required to pick up trash and a few members helped. Just a message from us, “Remember, when you are thinking about throwing out that piece of trash, someone has to pick it up.”

Homecoming Week has come and gone. What a fun-filled week! The cheerleaders always put together themes for each day of the week. I must say Nerd Day was my favorite! It was so fun to see kids in their dad’s old pants, suspenders and the ever-present taped up glasses! The week’s final hoorah was the infamous “pageant” during the pep rally!

What Happened ?? !!! The Coyote fans, who didn’t make the 2 hour trek to Walnut Springs, were asking on Saturday morning. A first quarter lead of only 23-18 is as rare for the Coyotes as an albino pecan tree in San Saba county. The Hornets picked up their own fumble on a kickoff and returned it for a touchdown and accepted two fumbled acorns deep in the Coyote orchard and converted them into 12 more points to stun the big itinerant crowd from Richland Springs.
