Each summer Wayland teaches a rope course at camp. He does not teach how to make a knot or to lasso an animal, though I am sure he could. I have never been on a course but there are great lessons he teaches. Some of the things he does are low to the ground and some are higher.

Proverbs 14:23: "All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty."Winston Churchill once asked an author if he wrote every day. I know, I have it all backwards. Spring is the season of renewal with the daffodils blooming and Easter eggs and baby bunnies and all, right? Yes, Spring brings renewal in nature, but to me Fall is the season of renewal. I would bet that many share that feeling. The most obvious example of Fall renewal is the beginning of the new school year.

The Ladder-backed Woodpecker is among the more common Hill Country birds, yet this diminutive woodpecker lives with little fanfare and attention. You are more likely to hear the male's "whinny" cry as he and his mate search for beetle larvae in dead or infected trees before you see him. Their call note is a sharp "pick."Birders can often rely on the name of a bird to have a good clue in helping to identify him.

There is really nothing that can be said about the weather except for the cool mornings that we have enjoyed for the last couple of days, but if we don’t receive some rain before too long there is not going to be any green weeds or grass for this coming fall and winter.

I don’t have to worry that it will be freezing cold during the day; we are supposed to have low 90’s this week.

More than 10 million Americans become victims of identity theft each year, as crooks steal names, Social Security or credit card numbers and use them to commit fraud or other crimes. That personal information is as good as gold to criminals and they will go to any means to get it.It is amazing to many Americans to learn how easy it is to obtain the needed information without even breaking into a house.
