Hello good people of San Saba. I have once again borrowed mom’s laptop without permission because getting permission is just too tiring. We all know her propensity for verbosity and I have no wish to be rude but when she talks and talks and talks I just want to start barking really loud so she shuts up.

I was in San Saba last week visiting R.D. Williamson. In his back yard he has a peach tree that is loaded with fruit. It is amazing to me because a couple of months ago when a storm hit San Saba, the wind tore that tree in half. Part of it is standing and part of it is laying on the ground.

A farmer was trying to persuade a calf to enter the barn. The animal planted its front feet in the barnyard and refused to budge. Annoyed, the man grabbed the calf and tried pulling it headfirst. The result was a stalemate. When his son saw the tug-of-war, he went to his father and offered to help.To the surprise of all, the boy succeeded in a minute – by taking the calf’s tail and walking him into the barn backwards. If you are faced with some dilemma today, try laying out your p ...

We often take our wren family members who live in close proximity to our houses for granted, especially the Bewick’s and Carolina wrens. We see them, hear them and think, “It’s a wren,” and continue our current activities. You also might get peeved with them because they are trying to build a nest in a shoe or other nook and cranny in your garage.

Light showers were received last weekend here around the Bend and Sunday Bonnie Millican reported they received 3/10 inch of rain, but not everyone who lives around the Bend received any rain. The reports, if you can believe the TV weather reports we should stand a good chance to receive some beneficial rains over most of the state.Due to the dry conditions there was little to none fire works set off in the Bend area.

Recently my son was telling me about missing some cows. He counted them on a Friday and the next Monday they were not all there. He started talking to the neighbors and looking around but no luck. He found a gate open at one end of the pasture and after several days he finally located the cows.

I can surely attest to the fact that summer has arrived! It really has been a good summer so far. Just when I think all my fat is going to melt and I’m going to lose weight; it cools down for a day or so. I was running over to the school courts to hit a few balls last week, but I was getting there by 7:00am to keep from overheating.

Boy, was I surprised when there were enough floats, bikes, golf carts and horses to make the line go around the Church of Christ!
